Belchen Tunnel North (CH)
BELCHEN TUNNEL RENOVATION PROJECT
The Belchen Tunnel along the A2, between Basel and Egerkingen, crosses the Jura mountains. A renovation of the two directionally separated dual track tunnels from 1970 is urgently needed. In order to minimize the associated traffic restrictions, the Belchen renovation tunnel (STB) is being created.
From 2016, the main tunnel work has been following, specifically the tunnelling. After the planned commissioning in 2022, the two existing, 50-year-old tunnels will be repaired one after the other. From then on, traffic will flow south through the renovation tunnel.
